The Japanese program involves students from years 3 to 6.The learning program focuses on three main learning outcomes:

  1. Listening, reading and responding

  2. Viewing, reading and responding

  3. Writing

Students learn high frequency, fundamental vocabulary and question and answer patterns. Reading and writing of hiragana, katakana and kanji is used in all years at varying levels.

In the younger years songs with mnemonic devices are used to enhance retention of new and unfamiliar language.

A variety of culturally enriching activities including sumie (ink brush painting), shodo (Japanese calligraphy writing), and origami reinforce learning.
