Welcome to Wembley Downs Primary School

Wembley Downs Primary School is an Independent Public School within the Churchlands Network of public schools. Our school is characterised by a feeling of community support and involvement with many parents being actively involved in school activities and the education of their children.

Our grounds are characterised by the number of large trees providing both shade and a basis for imaginative play. The original 1950s buildings provide an enclosed, secure feeling whilst our newer facilities, including a multi-purpose undercover assembly area, Early Childhood Centres and Library assist in the delivery of our education programs.

A school-wide Wi-Fi network allows students to access iPads in all classrooms. We have a 1:2 ratio in Years 1-5, then a 1:1 ratio in Year 6. We understand the importance of technology in school, yet ensure we prioritise intentional learning to support our families in the pursuit of the Wait Mate, platform. A platform that delays mobile phone/device access until the teenage years.

Our Science and Art room has been recently upgraded. This room and our Music Room provide students with the facilities to enhance their learning. Our Year 6 students also have their outdoor learning space where they are growing and nurturing an Indigenous Garden, surrounded by the beautiful NAIDOC Mosaic, completed by the students in 2023,

Enrolment currently stands at approximately 387 (K-6) with most students coming from within our local area intake. The school has a balance of teachers with varied experience and diverse expertise. We currently have specialist teaching in the areas of Health and Physical Education, Music, Science and Japanese. An Instrumental Music program facilitated by the School of Instrumental Music staff includes options for Years 3 - 6 for strings and brass. Students participate in, and perform publicly, within a school ensemble, at our Starlight Concert. Our Year 6 students also perform a Drama Production in Term 3, at Churchlands Senior High School, overseen by our Music Teacher.

There is a very active Parents and Citizens' Association developing social networks and with sub-committees managing such operations as the uniform shop and canteen. Our School Board oversees our planning and strategic direction enabling key community members to represent our school community.

Our staff follow whole school programs and use a Teaching Learning and Assessment Schedule (One Stop Shop) to inform their planning and assessments. The school also adopts the state and national assessments for On-Entry (Pre-Primary), Year 1 Phonics

Assessment as well as NAPLAN in Years 3 and 5. We use PAT Assessments, and all this information is stored and tracked via Elastik, which can be used to teach learning gaps at an individual or whole class level.

Our students have numerous leadership opportunities, in Year 6 we have Student Councillors and House Captains who gain valuable leadership skills and act as advocates for the student body. In Year 5, our students have the opportunity to apply to be a Your Move Leader or be a Green Team Member. Students in all grades may apply to be a Green Team Member. We are very proud of our students as we have a high standard of expectations and are a Positive Behaviour Support School, our motto being, Care~Respect~Challenge and our values are: Be Our Best, Be Caring and Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible.

On-site before and after school childcare facilities, provided through Mulberry Tree, enable the children of working parents to have a seamless transition from 'care to classroom'. The service is also available during school holidays ensuring children stay within a familiar and secure environment.
